Signed to Labrinth’s fresh-out-the box new label ‘Odd Child’, Etta Bond is the strong-hearted vocalist embodying the true essence of soul music in a world full to bursting with pre-packaged pop.
“I can safely say it was one of the best days of my life,” Etta Bond uttered when asked about meeting her label boss through MySpace when she was 16. Now 21, and with a strong musical family around her, her music has evolved into an explosive whirlwind of soul, alternative hip-hop and R&B. Citing Jill Scott, Amy Winehouse and even Tyler, The Creator as inspirations, it’s clear to see why her love of both classic and current artists has created a space for her to generate quality music. Her soft tones offer a comforting touch on Wretch 32′s new single, ‘Forgiveness’ and some were surprised to find Etta lay down a perfect C minor note on Labrinth’s smashing single ’Earthquake’. “I think it’s safe to say it’s my best work yet,” she says with a chuckle. Truly passionate about her craft, i-D online caught-up with Miss Bond to get a dose of what’s to come.
