Peter Jensen took his signature pieces to the catwalk last week for a retrospective show at The Victoria and Albert Museum as part of their Fashion in Motion series.
Since setting up in 2001 Danish born Jensen has created a look of elegance with his quirky combos. His initial motivation to study in the UK came from watching Rita, Sue And Bob Too, a film that set the designer on a series of collections named after iconic women, including Cindy (Sherman), Mink (Stole) and Anna (Karina). The ‘Mink’ collection specifically was inspired by a character in the John Waters film Female Trouble and has taken residence at the John Waters museum in Baltimore.
Set against a backdrop of his previous shows at The V&A, models paraded in ladylike frocks, pencil skirts and separates in pretty colourways, fancy handbags, beaded jackets, collars and cuffs (a collaboration with Louise Gray), all topped off with double wig hairdos and want-able shoes. A beautiful showcase of a ten year career. Bravo Peter Jensen!
