Stomping your Dr. Martens into the music industry in this day and age with a tune entitled ‘F*ck Me’ is only ever going to be acceptable if you’re three brazen, rule-breaking hotties with lungs. Cue StooShe.
The London-based trio Karis (Anderson), Courtney (Rumbold) and Alex (Buggs) throw mainstream expectations to the wall, swearing that the first rule of StooShe is… well, that there aren’t any. Something we got the gist of somewhere between watching Alex sat on a toilet during ‘F*ck Me’, singing “what we gonna call these guys who don’t like it raw? Pussyholes” and the first episode of their online series The Only Way Is StooShe where they displayed their mischievous personalities to unsuspecting artists Bruno Mars, Loick Essien and GFrsh.
Signing to Warner Bros Records earlier this year saw no change in the boisterous, fun-loving attitude that led them into their debut single ‘Betty Woz Gone’, which is obviously a story about a drug addicted mother who doesn’t know how to take care of her kids. Because we’d expect nothing less. With 100, 000 views of ‘Betty’ in 24 hours, a mixtape of covers called The StooShtape and a co-sign from Scott Mills himself, the girls are proving that unruly is the way forward. Having grown up listening to the Spice Girls, Salt & Pepa and Jay Z, the mix and blend of genres is evident in the sound they describe as “90-yet-futuristic”.
