It was acceptable in the 70s

Literally every inch of Frieze Art Fair is designed to catch your attention. You trip over something and then notice it has a caption, lean on the wall for a breather and feel the dig of another. It’s a visual themepark. As such, the things that stand out are to be admired all the more.

The sets designed by Peckham based art collective Lucky PDF (featured in The Dreams and Aspirations Issue) were one of the plots that held your gaze. Merging art and technology, the collective are known for their internet and TV projects, which was the premise of their exhibit at the fair. Constructing four different sets, one for each day of Frieze, they hosted live broadcasts and karaokes on luckyPDF.com inkeeping with the set theme of the day. The last day shined the spotlight on artist Samara Scott, who created a hyper-real Eurovision style set playing with the idea of spacey 70s corporate entertainment interiors. A mish-mash of saccharine glamour and OTT tropical colours completed the pastiche. i-D online used Samara’s set to stage a shoot, taking the eurovision theme a sartorial step further! Starring the lovely Luma (your host for the night), photographer John de Lima, stylist Sabrina Henry and hair stylist Charlie Le Mindu really went to town!
