i-DJ: Waifs & Strays

Waifs & Strays, aka Amos Nelson and Rich Beanland, met in the city of house music dreams, Bristol. Remaining true to their roots they plan to procreate their hench tunes in their hometown for evermore.

Infiltrating every inch of the Bristol scene, promoting, playing and throwing their own parties, Amos Waif and Rich Stray have been elbow deep in live music eventing for over a decade. Performing in every important venue the world over, these boys were busy paving their own way to success, individually, before they discovered their musical synergy and chemistry on deck.

Holding down long-term house music sensibilities since he first discovered the dance-floor, Amos’s relationship with his four on the floor, Chicago originated tunes is his raison d’être. Counting residencies at in-demand, around town club-nights, including The Rock in Bristol and the legendary Escape in Swansea, Amos’s up-tempo tastes are complimented perfectly by Rich’s darker drum and bass background. No stranger to the jungle/dubstep scene, this stray half of the duo used to produce music under his Soundbox Productions moniker and launched official releases on various prestigious labels, including dubstep giant Boka Records. Intrinsically bound by their good taste and the universe’s ability to bring people together, Waifs & Strays met on a night out when they got chatting about laying down decent beats and paving unconfined basslines.

Releasing a series of under the radar mixes, The Strays’ waif-like, bare flow has been identified by all the right people. Jamie Jones, Heidi, Matt Tolfrey, Jaymo and Andy George have all paid their respects playing their tunes in the midst of heavy sessions. 2011 sees tracks and remixes coming out of the likes of Get Physical, Hot Creations, Leftroom and Futureboogie, including exclusive cuts for the ‘Five Years of Leftroom’ and Heidi’s ‘Jackathon’ compilations. Landing a residency at Bristol’s all night venue, right through to the morning and after party, The Breakfast Club, these two spinning and scratching booth babies keep delivering their delicacies and continue to go down a treat. i-D online worked up an appetite, whilst the Strays stirred things up with an exclusive mix for this week’s i-DJ, taken from their recent Bugged Out session at In:Motion. Geeeeeet in!
