Goths in hot weather

Sulky indoor children, rejoice! Or at least force a feeble smile. All Hallows’ Eve is upon us and fashion’s black-clad hordes can finally enjoy an evening walking down the street without someone shouting, “It’s not Halloween yet!”.

Of course, those who call themselves real goths have famously never embraced the mainstream’s annual tribute to them. Gothing it up just one night a year is, after all, a little bit like only going to church on Christmas Eve, and as Mr Giles once told a fourth season Buffy, “Creatures of the night shy away from Halloween. They find it all much too crass.” This shouldn’t, however, stand in the way of a much-deserved homage to the frontrunners, who fly the flags of all things gothic, ghostly and ghoulish all year round. In the spirit of Halloween – and with a huge nod to another pioneer, gothsinhotweather.

– i-D online got our goth on, braved the Daystar and ventured out amongst the living. Because, you know, even the undead need to hit up the corner shop from time to time.
