Miuccia Prada’s spring/summer 12 collection pushed the pedal to the metal. Tackling an epic set of life-size foam convertibles and metal grates, Miuccia’s girls looked like they’d stepped straight out of a Quintin Tarantino B-movie. Hair came greased back, jewels sparkled and cartoon Cadillac prints adorned butter soft leather skirts and jewel-encrusted jackets. Cropped coats came embellished with cotton flowers, toy car prints added humour to pleated dresses, skirts and boob tubes, while candy coloured lace dresses, work coats and skirts fuelled the 1950s Americana vibe. As with everything Prada the beauty was in the details, and this season there were plenty of little touches to make you smile. i-D favourites include the clasps on leather clutch bags which resembled silver grills, and the number plates on the Cadillac prints which all read Prada. As we all know, where Miuccia leads others follow, but this season the Queen of Italian design ensured she stayed one step ahead of the herd by building go faster flames into the heels of her shoes to create the illusion her model’s were literally scorching into the future.
