Meadham Kirchoff. London, 20/09/11

Under a candy-cane mountain set of soaring, lollipop-coloured balloon arches, Meadham Kirchhoff presented a super-fun, playful ballet spectacular: “A wolf in lamb’s clothing.” Their pop-operatic theme music – starting with Hole’s “Miss World” then exploding into “Flight of the Bumblebee” – set the mood of Hollywood grunge meets sugarplum fairy, plus a dash of tween beauty pageant. Act 1 featured dancing girls powder-puffing the air with fragrant cosmetics; Act 2 featured child ballerinas and a towering, revolving cake; and all the while models marched around the periphery. They wore: Marie Antoinette wigs smeared with poster paint; bright make-up moustaches; big candy-floss fake furs; teddy bears eyes; skirts embroidered with chains of Christmas angels; knee-high stockings and gold-and-silver platform slips with pom pom pomp! A sweet as a nut-cracker of a collection from the Meadham Kirchhoff mafia.
