Pop socks, pop colours and planetary earrings were the order of the day at Marni for SS12. The first series of looks was dominated by simple slip dresses and plunging neck-lines in block-colours of pink, yellow and eggshell blue. Each was accessorised with nude coloured ankle socks, discreet courts and wildly swinging earrings reminiscent of a classroom Saturn spinning on it’s axis! Sneaking in on collars and sleeves at first, a crash of coloured sunflowers appeared on skirt suits and short suits, injecting a sense of feminine frivolity into the collection. Later the bouquets developed into more glittery and abstracted floral arrangements on thigh skimming jackets. The sturdy stable of more recognisable Marni prints finished-off the collection in style on collared, sleeveless dresses and razor sharp leather smocks. This season’s Marni madame is sartorially savvy and certainly knows how to let her hair down.
