i-D NOW: Let’s Get Physical!

On a humid Wednesday evening in mid-September, the sun was setting over a sleepy East London but we were only just getting ready to dress-up, make-up and shape-up for our i-D NOW/ Sink the Pink warm-up!

Lycra-clad London-based dance collective Sink The Pink took to the main stage at i-D NOW with the aim of providing a select audience with those highly sought-after buns of steel and washboard abs! The fun and frisky folk were keen to instigate their notorious “straight-friendly-gay-disco” vibe by kindly providing a delightful snazzy array of flamboyant figure hugging garments for us to slip into as well as an eclectic assortment of Kevin Kegan-esque wigs. Sprinkled on a bit of glitter, topped up our eyeliner and the trashy disco-diva look was complete. Cue the DJ to start a seemingly endless compilation of pop-tastic 80’s and 90’s club classics and we were ready to go! The intention was the same as always, “to leave your week at the door, get in some ridiculous clothes and make up and then lose yourself on the dance floor”!

Sink the Pink can be seen monthly at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club and bi-monthly at Dalston Superstore.
