i-Design: Tom Dixon

Fresh from showing off his design gold at our baby, i-D NOW, Tom Dixon prepares to play host to a whole lot of fun at the London Design Festival next week.

Established in 2002, Tom Dixon is a British design and manufacturing company producing sleek yet fun lighting and furniture. With a commitment to innovation and on a mission to revive the British furniture industry, the eponymous Tom Dixon brand is inspired by our nation’s unique heritage. Tunisian-born Tom rose to fame in the mid 1980s as ‘the talented untrained designer with a line in welded salvage furniture’. After being appointed head of design by Habitat in 1998, and being awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2001, he later became Creative Director.

From 19th-25th September, Tom will be hosting a series of events at The Dock, an industrial waterside estate at Portobello Docks. Sponsored by Derwent London, during September’s Design Festival visitors can expect an exciting mix of indoor, outdoor and water-based installations, exhibitions and workshops by all manner of exhibitors from Aston Martin to Innocent Drinks. Fabulous furniture designers Moooi will be transporting guests to a mythical underwater mermaid world whilst UP Project’s Floating Cinema – a brilliantly customised narrow boat – present their daily on-board screenings. Complemented by the current work and projects of RCA grads, screen-printing escapades, all the grub you could want and so much more. Get on down!
