i-D NOW: Beauty now

With her on make-up and him on photography, Lucy Bridge and Billy Ballard together made beauty heaven.

For her moment in the i-D NOW spotlight Lucy cast all non-models, choosing an array of London-based designers, musicians, stylists and hair stylists instead; people who look good in their clothes and comfortable in their skin. Shooting over two days in the pop-up space, Billy created a photographic cave living between four backdrops with his camera and his model hardly more than a ruler-width apart. Backstage, Queen of colour Lucy used 5,000 brushes (it seemed), pencils, shadows and sticky glossy eye stuff to create seven distinct looks for seven distinct girls. Often with beauty shoots, the model is a blank canvas and the make-up defines her. In this instance however, the models were defined by their different talents and professions, and the makeup served to emphasise individual personalities. Just before she packed-up, i-D online had a little chat about this and that with lovely Lucy.

Stay tuned for the final images, coming soon to an i-D online near you…
