Gucci kick-started Milan fashion week with a show-stopping collection of glamorous 1920s inspired eveningwear. Flapper dresses in graphic black, white and gold art deco prints paid homage to a 20s New York skyline, in particular the world famous Chrysler Building. Cut deep at the chest and low at the back, the sequin embellished dresses hugged each girl’s curves like a second skin before flaring out at the thigh in a sea of sequins. Opulent gold chain detailing accentuated cropped black Matador jackets worn with sharp white shirts, boxy trousers and strappy black sandals. While emerald green art-deco jackets and laser-cut leather shift dresses added to the luxurious, evening air. With Gucci set to celebrate its 90th anniversary in Florence next week with a lavish party and dinner (they will also be unveiling their highly anticipated Gucci Museo which traces the Italian luxury house’s history back to its 1921 roots) the focus was very much on show-stopping partywear. Dripping with glamour, gloss and sophistication this was Frida Giannini at her very best. Expect to see these dresses on the red carpet and beyond.
