Dominic Jones. London, 18/09/11

First introduced to South London trip-pop duo ‘The Alpines’ by XX vocalist, Romy Madley Croft, Dominic Jones discovered the inspiration for his SS12 collection, quite by accident. Intoxicated by the dulcet, wistful and progressive rhythms prominent throughout Catherine Pockson and Bob Matthews’ melodramatic music, Dominic then made it his mission to track down and introduce himself to the band. Infatuated by lead singer Catherine’s regal and elegant poise, a refined and detailed collection evolved. Remaining true to the techniques which have propelled him to the jewellery designer of choice, SS12 included must-have sharp, punk chic rings, cuffs and studs. Expanding the semi precious range he introduced last season, this season’s focus was shifted to working with straw quartz, garnets, moon stones, amethysts and opals. Describing the progressive movement that has developed over the five seasons since he first began showing, the 25 year old jeweller said his vision was ”a lot more refined, with more detail in the carving. Everything has a lot more of an adult feel to it this time, it’s all grown up”. The first jewellery designer to have an on-schedule presentation within the Portico Rooms, Dominic encouraged his guests to have fun and enjoy themselves with his collection at Saturday’s show. i-D Online caught up with the blue eyed boy to chat music and muses.
