Low maintenance model and full-time Mummy, Katrina Hunter doesn’t use mirrors and chopped off her long locks to simplify her life. Why? Coz she’s naturally fly.
Giving birth to a beautiful baby boy a little over a year ago, this elfin beauty fell in love with her husband’s photography before falling in love with him. Putting art before fashion she is particular about who she works and walks for. Wowing crowds last season before appearing in Vogue she is the androgynous, statuesque goddess with legs up to her chest and blue eyes that sparkle like deep waters. Approaching agencies, as opposed to waiting to be scouted, Katrina is intelligent, assertive and devastatingly pretty. i-D Online caught up with the vegetarian turned carnivore to find out what makes her tick and how she keeps her look so slick.
When do you feel the most beautiful? When I’m naked in bed, It’s when I feel most like myself, rather then whatever role I’ve been playing all day.
How has modelling changed you? It’s made me stronger, when you are constantly surrounded by judgments and rejections, you learn to find the core of yourself, who you truly are and cling to that, so that when someone turns you down for a job, you know they’re not turning you down, they’re turning your face down, or your legs, or your haircut, it’s given me a thick skin which I’ll forever be grateful for.
What is your preening routine? Oh lord, my girlfriend the other day asked to borrow my make up and laughed at my ‘kit’ I have kiehls lip balm and mascara essentially. I cut my hair off so I didn’t have to do it anymore! I hate putting on make up and burned myself the last two times I tried to use a curling iron. So that’s a bust. I do destroy my bedroom every time I get dressed though, I change clothes 40 times.
What keeps you awake at night? My son, he’s almost a year now, but hollers at me to bring him to bed with me.
What is your favourite Disney movie and why? Alice in Wonderland, I love Louis Carroll. I’m obsessed with the idea of an alternate universe too. I daydream about finding one quite often.
What’s your favourite food? Never thought I would say this, I was a vegetarian for 6 years until I became pregnant and that went out the window haha. My favorite food is steak, so rare it’s still mooing.
Can you remember your last dream? I read this excerpt from Silvia Plath’s unabridged journals that she wrote when she was nine, she said she had a nightmare in which she was being chased by a marshmallow and a hot dog, I had the same dream that night, only it was a good dream, in the end I’m pretty sure I ate them ha!
Who is your dream date? Karl Lagerfeld, without a doubt.
Where is the most beautiful place you have ever travelled to? Falls creek falls in Tennessee. They have these trails you walk along and at the end there are three waterfalls and in the middle of one you’re allowed to swim under the waterfall. It’s gorgeous.
If you were invisible for a day what would you do? Sneak into Riccardo Tisci’s design room just to watch him work.
What are the five things you could not live without?
