‘Ted’s Draws’ is the joint business venture of three housemates, a t-shirt franchise which was dreamt up over beers and banter in their kitchen turned studio.
The talent behind the operation is Ted Pearce, a part-time Curzon usher and full-time home-schooled illustrator. Primarily etching away in whatever spare time he finds just to keep himself entertained, Ted has never had any ambition to do anything other than live vicariously through his art. He’s friendly, funny and striking, much like the D.I.Y. style tees he creates. Adorning over-sized white fabric shirts with monochrome caricatures of cult icons like Madonna, Raekwon and Prince, under the eponymous name tag ’Ted’s Draws’ the label combines this Mr Tee’s two foremost loves; late 80s music and fabric pens. Spending his time watching high action, adventure filled films he sites ‘To love and die in L.A’ as his favourite film and despite being born in Colchester has no interest in ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ (dev’d).
Kicking off his adult life as an event organiser-cum-DJ, he first discovered the now manically hip streets of Dalston fifteen years back and has watched as time and trend has developed the areas. These days you can mostly find the North London born lad helping out his mate Deano down The Alibi, occasionally throwing 90s rap nights, seeking out on t-shirts bargains eBay, cooking or getting his wriggle on down at at ‘Work It’. His hopes are to establish the Ted’s Draws label and then to spend his summer holiday looking out of place in rural Ireland. i-D Online caught the man with the draws as he made us a special hand-drawn article on camera, his parting words on the matter? “Horses are delicious.”
