Striding with purpose to the soundtrack of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ and around the circular core of the old French stock exchange, the message was clear: the Lanvin man undertakes epic voyages. The collection moved through many stages. Day-wear was minimal, strikingly so: stiff cotton macs with collars upturned and buckled. Collarless, brown leather T-shirts with matching jackets. Then, colour-blocked suits (hot coral, sky blue, aubergine and musty violet) were slim cut, ankle-length, single-breasted or loose-fit, double-breasted with sandals. The collection segued into clothing where ethnic prints were incorporated into trousers and leggings. As the models circled the room for the final walk through, the cumulative effect of the signature Lanvin mens’ colour palette plus the sharpened design and the sheer number of looks was electrifying. Lanvin menswear is truly gathering pace now.
