Clement Marfo and The Frontline

Clement Marfo and The Frontline are a seven strong band, more like a mini army in fact in their stature. With biceps out to here, they’re a force to be reckoned with. But we wouldn’t try.

The diversity of the collective is immediate; their style and individuality shows each member to be very different, but on talking to them and hearing their music you see how each of their traits complement and merge in perfect, unexpected harmony. Clement, the super spitter of the band, has an aggressive flow that rides the beat effortlessly with Kojo’s smooth voice applying the adlibs and melodies as and when. Stacey, the female addition of the band, provides the keys while Johnny brings the bass. Rich and Dan play guitar and that leaves Dion, the drummer, who’s rumoured to be a master in the kitchen! With so many members it’s no wonder you can hear a range of musical influences in their sound, from soft rock to eclectic hip hop.

The last twelve months have been impressive, taking into consideration they have only been together for two years. Their single ‘Champion’ featured in box office smash hit Street Dance 3D and they have been fortunate enough to support a range of artists including Florence and the Machine and Plan B, along with festival performances at Sonar Festival in Holland and Helsinki’s Basso. Watching them perform, you can’t help but feed off their energy which should be the ultimate goal with any band; they deliver the right amount of bounce. Now signed to Warner, you can expect great things from this lot in the future, including a remix with producer to watch 2011 Rude Kid. In the meantime, here’s an i-D Online exclusive of Clement Marfo and the Frontline performing ‘Overtime’…
