The Princesses of Pop-Up

Following the success of The Glorified Pound Shop, i-D’s Princess Julia and A Child of Jago’s Karlie Shelley curate The Amwell Street Knocking Shop, open today!

The Knocking Shop is a lifestyle pop up boutique in the heart of Islington with a mix of designer archives from Pam Hogg, Judy Blame, A Child of Jago, Vivienne Westwood, Piers Atkinson, Noki, Superfine, Mich Dulce, Simon Preen and Yasmina Dexter. There’s also an expansive selection of vintage (which Princess Julia describes as ranging from “contemporary vintage to vintagey-vintage”) courtesy of The House, Josh Quinton, Lauren Webb and Retromania Vintage. Knocking Shop is not just for the fashion hungry – it also stocks vintage books from Maiden, immaculate hand painted plates from the talented Ben Ashton and a collection of Karlie’s personal vintage magazines (early issues of i-D included!)

Kickstarting with a bang-in party tonight, the shop will be open every weekend from May 25th to June 26th. In the basement, the ladies are offering a series of workshops and classes including a badge making workshop directed by PINS, film screenings by Today Is Boring, a vintage hair salon with Sammy Knight, life and fashion drawing classes and an i-D Straight Up day with Emily Rose England. Hesitate and you might miss your chance to own prized pieces like one of Pam Hogg’s first ever catsuits that she made in her kitchen, 80s Vivienne Westwood World’s End pieces, a new still-in-the-box Margiela cork necklace or a classic Marjan Pejoski swan top. So what are you waiting for? Well, we’ll allow you a few minutes to watch Princess Julia and Karlie talk you through it. Then on your bike.

The Amwell Street Knocking Shop is located at 63 Amwell Street, London, EC1R 1UR. Open Friday to Sunday 12 noon to 7pm and by appointment during the week.
