Photographer Letty Schmiterlow has a bright, shiny future ahead. A dash through her blog gives a glimpse into her thoroughly 21st century mind. Blessed with the wonderful, wide-ranging wisdom of a 90s baby, with cyber-space at her fingertips, she takes influences from here, there and everywhere. Her snaps scream Venetia and Juergen, her ears like Snoop Dogg and her friends like skating; she’s totally two-thousand-and-eleven! i-D Online loves Letty in all her shamelessly cheesy, hopelessly hip fabulousity, and we’re sweet on her pretty spectacular looking pack of pals too (think Bille Turnbull, Alice Goddard and Danny Reed). Here, we chat with Sister Schmit’ about snapping, Snooping and everything in between.
When did you first start snapping? I started taking photos properly about two years ago, for a project I did during my art foundation. Then I started posting things on my blog. I had no intention then of ‘being a photographer’, it just kind of happened. I still think I’m constantly learning and getting better.
Describe your camera in five words? The best I’ve ever had.
On a scorching day how do you keep your cool? Being hot is cool.
Tell us about the best summer you’ve ever had… Last summer, with my best friend. I started the summer in April when we got stuck in LA because of the volcano eruption, then when I got back to London I carried on just hanging out and doing nothing of real importance until September. It was the best!
What are your plans for the summer ahead? Leave the house and see friends as much as possible, swim lots, take lots of pictures and work on my zine, ‘Hot & Cool’.
What’s your favourite food? Cheese fries with sour cream, so good.
What makes you happy? YouTube usually!
What is your favourite film? Zoolander.
What do you get up to when you hang out with your mates? I’ve developed a real obsession for tongue transfer tattoos so they usually make at least one appearance when we’re out and about!
What music have you been listening to lately? Snoop Dogg.
