SXSW is more than a festival, it’s a lifestyle. Actress and model Clara Paget reported for i-D Online on a week of bands, barbecues and beverages set in the dusty town of Austin, Texas.
The ten day cultural blow out which saw its climax last week, plays host to interactive film and music events (individually so the film geeks don’t have to mix with the band geeks). 2011 saw big names hit the stage such as Queens of The Stone Age and Kanye West, who put on an all-singing all-dancing show with guests Jay Z, Kid Cudi, Mr Hudson and Mos Def. Hotly tipped newcomers Hanni El Khatib, Jamie Woon and TEED played side by side with old American classic acts like Wanda Jackson, Jack White and Bad Brains. As 200, 000 people partied down under the Texan sun, Perez Hilton shared lols with Mischa Barton at the Diesel dinner and P Diddy cheered on riot inciting newbies Trash Talk as the lead singer threw a bin into the crowd.
