Alexander McQueen: Paris, 08/03/11.

Sarah Burton produced yet another hugely powerful and emotional show for the house of McQueen. Continuing to grow in her relatively new role, she has somehow managed to grab a firm hold of McQueen’s legacy and is propelling it forward, to ensure it endures and prospers. Dazzling white fur trimmed coats with pinched-in waists had a touch of Siberian savagery about them, whilst bondage corsets and thigh-high lace-up boots sizzled with dangerous eroticism. Heavy chain-mail dresses were followed by a series of couture-like dresses and gowns that were as light as air, belying their dense complexity. The craftmanship was outstanding; clouds of pleated organza, bodices comprised of tiny pieces of cracked ceramic and intricate hand-woven degradé. Swept along with the graceful finesse and dazzling artistry on show, we couldn’t help but cheer as a demure Sarah Burton emerged to take her bow. A huge home-run for Team McQueen.
