Milan kicked off with another stellar collection from Frida Giannini at Gucci, celebrating the Italian fashion brand’s ninetieth birthday in the business. Inspired by Bob Richardson’s iconic photographs of Anjelica Houston snapped in the 70s; Gucci’s autumn/winter 11 collection was a dramatic film noir in colour. Cue dramatised seventies proportions, elegant trouser suits, luxurious fox fur stoles and organza dresses in a daring colour palette of emerald green, cherry, lilac and lime. “This is a contemporary female dandy who fuses glamour and seduction using the iconic codes of the house,” Frida explained after the show. “She is a polished woman with a decisive personality, who is attentive to detail and willing to dare.” Daring yet wearable is no small feat and this season it looks like Frida Giannini pulled off both.
