Inspired by Ancient Egyptian rituals and preserving the body for after life, Tessa Edwards presented her A/W 11-12 collection in the suitably historic RSA Vaults. Texture was paramount with faux-fur padded, wrapped and bound around the body to uncover thin layers of flesh-toned leather, net and chiffon, and holographic fabric melted into tailored suits and jackets. Tessa’s references can be seen in her long leather tabards (as worn by high priests) and red linings that have been influenced by The Book of the Dead. Jewellery also played a major role this season and focused on magnification and distortion; Swarovski crystals were set in hand-blown glass and strapped to the body with leather.
