Taking inspiration from the USA’s Golden State, fashion’s favourite sisters Rodarte have combined forces with Opening Ceremony to produce an all-American spring/summer 11 capsule collection.
It may still feel cold and miserable outside, but the new collaboration between Rodarte and Opening Ceremony is a sure sign that summer’s on its way. Paying homage to their home state of California, the Mulleavy sisters have collaborated with pioneering USA brand Opening Ceremony to produce a 75 piece collection for spring/summer 2011. Combining the cool, casual Californian style with their signature high-fashion aesthetic, Rodarte have created an easy-to-wear range that includes adorable swing dresses, statement leather separates, light lace skirts, tapestry capes and fifties-inspired floral print swimwear. An eclectic mix of accessories are also on offer, with pom pom sandals, cowboy boots, white tattoo tights and classic sunglasses inspired by country crooner Roy Orbison. Not leaving the boys out in the cold, the collection also includes a line of clean-living, Beach Boy-style menswear, from dapper slim twill suits to California University varsity sweaters.
This unique collaboration between two of America’s most influential and exciting fashion labels is the result of a long-term alliance between Kate and Laura Mulleavy and Opening Ceremony’s co-founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, a friendship that goes way back to the foursome’s days together at the same university. “This collection was really about friends working together on a fun and exciting project”, explains Leon, “the outcome is an extraordinary collection that celebrates the dynamics of California, the home state for all of us.” Sounds like a heavy dose of American-style team spirit.
Rodarte for Opening Ceremony is available online and in selected stores.
