The fashion world has been on tenterhooks waiting for one man: after tantalising hype and fiercely guarded press, Tom Ford unveils the first women’s collection from his eponymous label for spring/summer 2011.
The best kept secret in fashion, the collection was photographed exclusively by Terry Richardson and presented to an audience of one hundred in September 2010. This film is the first peek at Tom Ford’s catwalk vision of the modern woman, and it’s worth every second of the wait. Sauntering through the well-heeled watchers to the sound of Karen Elson’s track ‘Pretty Babies’, was quite the host of superstars, Amber Valetta, Natalia Vodianova, Beyoncé Knowles, Freja Beha, Abbey Lee, Carolyn Murphy, Liya Kebede (all i-D cover stars), and the list goes on. Challenging the convention of a catwalk show, the models oozed that blend of sex appeal and power Ford has become famous for; smiling, winking and blowing kisses in show-stopping dresses, calf-grazing skirts and plunge necks. Reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour, the collection is as desirable as the women who so spectacularly flaunted it.
Tom Ford womenswear will be available from March 2011.
