Raf Simons for Jil Sander, The Pick Me Up Issue
Flying to Milan to interview Raf Simons for i-D’s Pre-Fall, The Pick Me Up Issue was definitely a highlight of my year. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday, just days before Jil Sander’s spring/summer 12 menswear show in June and Raf’s studio was abuzz with energy. It was such a pleasure to chat with Raf and be welcomed into his world. The cover shoot by Willy Vanderperre and Olivier Rizzo, starring the beautiful Natasha Poly in a cashmere Jil Sander ski cap, definitely holds it’s own in i-D ‘s iconic cover hall of fame.

Richard Nicoll is a great friend of i-D’s, so when he approached us to create a story about his muses we leapt at the chance. It was great to work with Richard, honing his idea and discovering the inspirational group of women who inspire his work.

Jourdan Dunn, The Winter Warm Up Issue
Anything Alasdair McLellan touches turns to gold, and the The Winter Warm Up Issue’s Jourdan Dunn shoot, with i-D’s Fashion Editor Elgar Johnson was a case in point. Jourdan looked beautiful in simple black YSL polo neck, while the pink background and bright yellow nails courtesy of Sophy Robson gave a warm winter glow.

Covers
i-D is renowned for spotting the fashion stars of the future. Over the years we have given many of the world’s biggest supermodels their first covers, from Stella Tennant to Naomi Campbell and Gisele Bündchen. This year we continued that tradition, inviting Chinese supermodel in the making, Fei Fei Sun, to strike a pose. Unfortunately Fei Fei was unable to wink, so artfully improvised with her hand instead! Californian newbie, Hailey Clauson, also perfected her wink for her first i-D cover with photographer Matt Jones. Watch these faces.

Lindsey Wixson is one of my favourite new models. With her amazing pout, and cheeky, upbeat personality featuring her in i-D is always a joy. We’re all about models with personality, and this photograph by Terry Richardson can’t not make you smile!
