i-ntroducing Nadia Narain

Creating clean burning candles, which evoke a calming sense of love, hope and joy, Nadia Narain is the Hatha Yoga instructor who can spiritually enhance inner peace.

Studying Vispaaana meditation, working closely with a Buddhist monk, practicing processes of physical purification developed in late 15th century India, Nadia Narain is an inspirational woman of many talents. First making candles purely for pleasure, Nadia quickly turned her talents within waxwork into a successful business, offering a select range of sustainably sourced, plant-based, hand-poured candles which burned aromatherapy oils as opposed to corrosive perfumes and paraffin. Today, Nadia divides her time between her blossoming business and her yoga and holistic practices. Celebrated for her exemplarily balanced, down-to-earth approach to living and channelling positive energies, Nadia starts every day with a cup of Earl Grey and ends each with a hot bath. Her advice to anyone who has similar aspirations to turn a hobby into a thriving sideline is simply “there is only ever the journey, there is no destination”. i-D Online caught up with the holistic entrepreneur to find out her top tips for living green and getting what you want out of life.

What is inspiring you right now? Bob Marley’s biography. I bought it for my Christmas holiday
but can’t put it down. I also just finished Luella’s Guide To English Style, which empowered me to feel good about my style; throwing things together and loving all the women she was inspired by. I also just got hugged last week by AMMA, the hugging healing saint from India who travels all over the world to hug and give love.

What are you currently working on? I just finished all the new packaging for the candles and it has felt like I was working two jobs a day for the past few months so I’m working on getting the candles to all the people that have been so patient waiting for their orders!

What are your signatures scents? Each candle’s mix of oils is made to invoke the feeling of Love (Rose and Geranium), Joy (Sweet Orange, Ylang-ylang, Lavender), Hope (Bay Laurel, Basil and Lime) and Peace (Lavender).

What are your top 5 tips for green living?
1. Being a vegetarian
2. Recyling
3. Eating seasonal vegetables
4. Not owning a car
5. And, I’m pretty good at turning off all the electricity when I leave home.

Nadia Candles are stocked at Colette, Triyoga, Lost in Beauty, The Cross and Jivamukti.
