Following our interview earlier in the spring, i-D Online recently visited Scarlett the Holistic Healer at her Lucky Plot Number 7 to see the fruits of her labour. The weather was glorious and crops plentiful; a perfect end to the season.
Scarlett has been busy preparing for the bitter winter weather, taking food out of the ground and sowing her autumn seeds. The full cycle of her allotment crop is almost complete, allowing the Heavenly Healer to harvest what she has biodynmically nurtured from the earth.
With the sun soon to be only a distant memory, Scarlett is bidding adieu to green leaves and moist soils. “What a joy it would be if we could schedule the sun! We can try but nature will only have it her way. If she chooses sunshine or rain showers, that is a gardener’s lot and particularly being biodynamic as I am. Sometimes the madness is sowing in the rain to keep the food biodynamic. I can’t change the calendar. In 2008 I planted potatoes between snow showers to suit my biodynamic calendar! You have to laugh.”
