Kirsten and Diana are two keen DM’ers, one with a pair that followed her across the pond and the other with an extra-exclusive discontinued style that always gets onlookers chattering…
Kirsten Wilson, 22, London
What do you do? I’m a Graphic Design/Illustration student at Central Saint Martins. What are you wearing top to toe? Levi’s denim shirt, Topshop jeans, Marc Jacobs necklace and my DMs. Tell us about the first pair of Docs you ever bought? My mum gave me my first pair. The ones I’m wearing now I managed to get for £1.50 off eBay because the previous owner had found out I was going to New York and she’d never taken them there before! Why do you love the Docs you’re wearing today? I literally wear them everyday; I guess I don’t feel like myself without them on. Why do you think Docs have bridged generations and transcended trends? I’ve met guys outside pubs before that are still wearing the same pair they had when they were my age. They love seeing young people in them and will launch into a 30 minute tale of their DMs and the trouble they used to get into in them. If your Docs could speak what would they say? Buy me new laces. When are you most comfortable? Back at my parents farm, or lounging about in my leopard print onesie.

What do you do? I’m a lingerie/swimwear designer. What are you wearing top to toe? A charity shop jacket, Commes des Garçons for H&M top, American Apparel leggings and DMs. Why do you love the Docs you’re wearing today? Because I haven’t been home for five days, I’ve been at two festivals this weekend and couldn’t go back to home in Hackney to get new clothes and all I have in my bag are my DMs, phone, laptop, spare clothes and make up. That’s all I need! What does your choice of Docs say about you? I think the style of DMs I’m wearing has been discontinued… People always come up to me and ask where I got them. They have a foamy tongue and top, so are comfy – so maybe that I like comfort? If your Docs could speak what would they say? Why did you have to grow up? Describe your sense of style? Neutral charity shop space chic.
